It’s proven that in a blood pressure study using sufferers of hypertension - participants of the study, who monitored their blood pressure at home, controlled their blood pressure much better than those who only had their blood pressure checked at the doctors as this avoids ‘white coat syndrome’ whereby patients were less relaxed in the surgery environment.
The monitors automatically relayed the readings back to a secure server, and participants were told to take a reading 6 days a week. That information was then passed along to their volunteers’ doctor, who would make recommendations, or adjust medications if needed. The researchers also conducted another study, monitoring a sample group who had appointments at a doctor’s clinic, as they usually would be.
The home monitoring patients exceeded expectations. 72% of the home study group had their blood pressure under control whilst only 57% of the usual care group experienced the same results.
